Counselling

by Nicole O'Regan

Why Counselling?

Sometimes we find that life circumstances leave us feeling overwhelmed and we struggle to make sense of it all.  Speaking with someone who is trained to walk alongside you as you unravel the threads can be valuable.  This may mean looking at past events and how they impact your emotions and reactions in the present.  Perhaps there are events today that are causing you to feel anxious, stressed and at the limits of your ability to cope.  It may be that you have experienced trauma and would benefit from some extra help to make sense of what has happened and the effects it is still having on your day-to-day living.

As your Counsellor, I offer you a safe, confidential space where together we can work through these areas of your life, moving towards an understanding of what has taken place, finding a more fruitful way of living and being equipped with new resources to support you for whatever your future holds.....

I can see individuals ages 16 years and over.  Whilst anyone can refer themselves for counselling, it may be helpful to discuss this with your GP.

What kind of problems can counselling help with?

Below are some of the issues that bring clients into counselling but is not an exhaustive list, please get in touch if you wish to find out more information.

Clients may visit with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of self-confidence
  • Grief and loss
  • Family situations
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Work-related stress

Clients may leave with:

  • A greater understanding of themselves
  • New coping strategies
  • New ways to communicate with others
  • More positive patterns of behavior
  • Changed thoughts and beliefs about themselves
  • Resolution of grief or loss
  • A new direction in their life

What happens in counselling?

Our first session is an opportunity for us to meet and talk about what has brought you to counselling, for you to find out about how I work and ask me any questions you need to before we decide if counselling is the way forward for you.  If we agree to work together, we will agree an initial number and frequency of sessions - this is usually weekly or fotnightly.

How you will benefit from Counselling?
Whatever situation brings you into counselling, my hope is that you leave with a greater understanding of your circumstances; deeper insight into your reactions to events; a wide range of coping strategies; changed thinking styles and beliefts about yourself; resolution of grief or loss; new confidence for your future.
